THE COLUMN (TC) is the brainchild creation by professional actor/part time theater critic John Garcia.  Almost ten years ago it was just a small email group of theater friends as a chat group that has now grown into a major daily entertainment related column that is written, edited, & created Garcia. Membership for THE COLUMN is now close to 8,000 subscribers worldwide.

John has interviewed for THE COLUMN and for talkinbroadway.com some of today's biggest stars! Past interviews include stage legend Chita Rivera, TONY Award winner Jarrod Emick, film/Stage stars Christian Campbell, Craig Bierko, Morgan Fairchild, Margaret Cho, Gary Gulman, Wilson Cruz, Tom Wopat, Anthony Rapp, Matt Cavanaugh, and Patrick Cassidy.

In 2005 The University of North Texas honored John with the Distinguished Alumni Award for Excellence in Theater.  Also last year Garcia was the special "singing theater critic" for the national radio station, KISS FM for Kidd Kraddick in the Morning radio show.

As an actor, Garcia has close to 200 productions under his belt.  Personal favorites include PAGEANT, A NEW BRAIN, MAN OF LA MANCHA, LaChusia's THE WILD PARTY, DAMN YANKEES, FORUM, JOSEPH, ANYTHING GOES, SHAKESPEARE ABRIDGED, and so on.

John is the Regional Theater Critic (Texas) for the international, well-respected theater website, www.talkinbroadway.com.  For this site and THE COLUMN he reviews Broadway, Regional, and Dallas/Fort Worth Theater. In 2001 Garcia wanted to honor excellence in theater within the Dallas/Fort
Worth Theater community, thus he created "The Column" Theatre Awards.  This awards organization honors both Equity and Non-Equity productions that are produced all over the metroplex.  "The Column" Awards Gala has become an annual, glittery, glitzy gala which is thoroughly enjoyed by all.

"The Column" Theatre Awards Advisory Board is made up of highly talented and extremely dedicated individuals within the DFW theater community that each year produce and create the annual gala.

For the 2006 Column Awards Gala none other than Anthony Rapp was the guest of honor for the evening.  Rapp originated the role of "Mark Cohen" in the landmark, history making rock opera, RENT.

"The Column" Theatre Awards Gala donates all the money raised from the Gala (after operating costs) to BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS (BCEFA).  The Column awards are the ONLY awards organization in Texas that does this and has become part of the BCEFA's Angel Campaign. The Column Awards have raised thousands for this amazing charity.
