Celebrates 10th Anniversary Season
2014 Season Includes
C**k, Nocturne and TACA Grant Awardee BOOTHs

Co-Artistic Directors Kelsey Head and Steven Walters announced today Second Thought Theatre’s 10th Anniversary Season. From an alternative love triangle, to the haunting tale of a former piano prodigy, to a brand new play about the man behind one of the most tragic assassinations in American history, STT’s 2014 season will have audiences on the edge of their seats from start to finish.

"This season will be an intimate, explosive, thought-provoking and wildly entertaining journey,” says Walters. “From dark comedy to intense drama to an historical thriller, STT's 10th Anniversary will be a theatrical celebration to remember."

The 2014 season will begin with Mike Barltett’s C**k, directed by STT Associate Artist Alex Organ. North Texas audiences will get a glimpse of this production during two staged readings at the Pride Series hosted by Uptown Players this fall.

“Mike Bartlett challenges us to view human sexuality as it truly is: complicated, intricate, and multi-dimensional; not the tidy clear-cut version we've been fed,” says Organ. “In C**k the playing space is stripped of scenery and props, and the stakes are extremely high, making it an especially exciting piece for actors. The drama is messy, truthful, and at times painful to watch, but always hysterically funny.”

Following C**k is Nocturne, a one-man play by Adam Rapp, starring STT Associate Artist Drew Wall. “I’ve been interested in this play for years,” says Wall. “Nocturne is devastating and cathartic, brutal yet hypnotically innocent. But what attracted me to it the most is that I find it completely terrifying. When somebody hands me something this far out of my comfort zone, I have to say yes. My only real choice is to say yes and see where that takes me.”

Closing the season is a brand new play by Walters, BOOTH. Walters, with research assistance from Erik Archilla, paints a vivid portrait of John Wilkes Booth and the events that led to his decision to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln. BOOTH is a grantee of the 2013 TACA Donna Wilhelm Family New Works Fund.

"As a piece of theater, BOOTH is more than just a history lesson,” says Walters. “Packed to the brim with espionage, se*, tragedy, betrayal, and of course, the most infamous act of violence in American History, BOOTH is a truly epic political thriller."

Second Thought Theatre’s 2014 season will be presented as follows: Cock (Jan. 29–Feb 22); Nocturne (April 2 – 26); and BOOTH (May 21 – June 14). All performances will take place at Bryant Hall next door to the Kalita Humphreys Theater, 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd.
