MBS Productions is pleased to announce that the film
“The Soul Gatherer” won the “Audience Favorite Award”
at the Northern California Film Festival.

Acting with the stars“The Soul Gatherer” is based on the play written by Mark-Brian Sonna that had its world premiere in 2007 at the Stone Cottage Theatre in Addison TX.  Upon its premiere it received unanimous critical acclaim.  The play was revived in 2011 with equal success.  It was at that time that producer Rendalee Singleton and director Benjamin Ward attend a performance and decided that the play should be turned into a film.

Production of the film began in 2012 and was completed in 2013.  All the dialogue of the play as written by Mark-Brian Sonna was kept in the screenplay.  Original cast members John Victor Allen as Gideon, and Mark-Brian Sonna as Mark, were cast in the film.  Grisel Cambiasso who starred in the revival reprised her role as Matilde in the film.  Film actors Andrew Sensenig as Frederick, Karen Jagger as  Therese, Roger Schwermer as Paul Fourth, and Ashley Orignderff-Montoya as Bernadette also star in the film.

The story is based on a nightmare by Mark-Brian Sonna. The original play was described as follows:

“On a stormy night a young woman suffering from catatonia begins to emerge from her years of silence with a series of painful screams. That same night her estranged brother is scheduled to arrive. The live-in nurse and maid become overwhelmed with trying to keep the young girl calm and call her Psychiatrist for help. There is a blackout. When the lights come back on a man is found naked on the floor face down in a bed of feathers in a catatonic state. Is it a mass delusion, a physical embodiment of the girl’s mental illness, a visitation of an angel, or is this visitor an imposter? Be prepared to be startled, provoked and intrigued by this most unique play.”

The movie was filmed on location in Richardson, Texas, over a period of 11 days.  The format is in black and white and the running time is 1:43.

The film was submitted to the Northern California Film Festival and won the “Audience Favorite” award. The list of winners can be found at www.NorCalFilmFest.net
