2014-2015 Season

MainStage Irving-Las Colinas unveiled the four plays and one musical that will be produced as part of the 2014-15 season to a packed house of volunteers, subscribers, and supporters on Saturday night, May 10 at the Irving Arts Center. Met with tremendous excitement, the “Curtain Up!” season features The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, A Flea in Her Ear, The Heiress, The Farnsworth Invention and the Kander & Ebb musical Curtains. All MainStage productions are performed in the Dupree Theatre at the Irving Arts Center (3333 N. MacArthur Boulevard, Irving, Texas 75062).

Season ticket packages for the five shows range from $50-$75 (including a convenient “Flex Pass). MainStage also offers a “Pick 3” package that ranges from $51-$60. Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 by John Bishop (November 7-22, 2014)
It’s an ingenious and wildly witty whodunit that enjoyed a long and critically hailed run both on and off Broadway. A farcical escapade, it features a non-stop barrage of hilarity as the cast of characters untangles the mystery of the infamous “Stage Door Slasher.” In a house replete with sliding panels, secret passageways, knives springing out of nowhere, and a maid who just seems to keep popping up everywhere, this diabolical mystery leaves you guessing ‘till the last laugh.

The Heiress by Ruth Goetz and Augustus Goetz (January 16–31, 2015)
This Tony Award-winning play presents awkward and shy Catherine Sloper and her affluent father, Dr. Austin Sloper, in mid 1800’s New York. When Catherine is swept off her feet by a dashing young suitor, her father learns of this romance and threatens to disinherit her, convinced that the young man could only be interested in her vast fortune. Catherine becomes trapped in the middle of this inheritance quarrel and learns a harsh reality of life.

A Flea In Her Ear by Georges Feydeau (March 20 – April 4, 2015)
This turn-of-the-century French farce is full of comedic chaos! Enter Victor, an elegant barrister in 1900 Paris, whose wife Raymonde’s suspicions of her husband’s philandering are confirmed when his suspenders are returned from the Hotel Coq d’Or, a notorious house of assignation. In her attempt to catch her husband “in the act,” the entire cast ends up at a hotel that specializes in romantic tete-a-tetes, chasing each other through slamming doors or in beds that spin, seeing double, and getting thrashed by an insane Englishman while they’re at it. Will Victor & Raymonde find their marital bliss again?

The Farnsworth Invention by Aaron Sorkin (May 29 – June 13, 2015)
It's 1929. Two ambitious visionaries race against each other to invent a device called “television.” Separated by two thousand miles, who gains the edge and unlocks the key to the greatest innovation of the 20th century: the ruthless media mogul, or the self-taught Idaho farm boy? The answer comes to life in this compelling historical drama from acclaimed writer Aaron Sorkin, creator of the hit TV series The West Wing, The Newsroom, and the Academy Award-winning film The Social Network.

Curtains Book by Peter Stone & Rupert Holmes, Music by John Kander & Fred Ebb (July 24 – August 8, 2015)
It’s the brassy, bright, and promising year of 1959. Boston’s Colonial Theatre is host to the opening night performance of a brand new musical. But when the leading lady mysteriously dies on stage, the entire cast and crew become suspects in a murder investigation. Enter a local detective who just happens to be a musical theatre fan! In a quest to find the culprit, the detective feels the surest way to solve the crime will be to keep the entire cast of suspicious characters sequestered in the theatre.
