Stage West announces 2013 - 2014 Season

Stage West

Stage West is pleased to announces its lineup for the 35th season!   The new season offers a wonderful mix of plays, including a classic comedy, an Olivier winner, and a new original work, plus an additional special attraction.  They are:

The Rivals, By Richard Brinsley Sheridan
October 31 – December 1

One of the world’s great classic comedies, which has charmed audiences for centuries. In a fashionable spa, courtship takes the form of convivial confusion as a cast of languishing ladies, resolute rebels, furious fathers, language-mangling matrons, daft dandies, and scheming servants feud, fight, and fib all in the name of love. This smart comedy of manners delicately demonstrates how to use very few.

Starbright & Vine, by Richard Allen
February 27 – March 23

A sharp and biting new comedy. Two stubborn, jaded celebrities, a 70-something comic and a younger writer, are forced together against their will to create one grand finale sketch to be aired on national television. Late nights and forgotten memories lead to hilarious blow-outs and heartbreaking discoveries. But when it comes down to it, these two bitter and lost souls find something in each other that they didn’t expect.

Orlando, adapted by Sarah Ruhl from the novel by Virginia Woolf
April 3 – May 4

A luminous and whimsical sweeping epic. In a journey that defies time and the laws of nature, a strapping young English nobleman falls asleep, and upon waking, finds that he is now a she. One of Virginia Woolf’s most acclaimed novels, the story of Orlando is a fantastical free-fall into the mysteries of love, knowledge, identity, and not only what it means to live in the present moment, but imagining who we may become in the next.

Grace, by Craig Wright
May 15 – June 15

A bold and darkly comic drama about belief and knowledge, and the consequences of mistaking one for the other. A bright-eyed evangelical Christian couple move to sunny Florida in hopes of turning a profit on a real estate investment. Their damaged neighbor is battling demons of his own, while the building’s quirky exterminator makes his rounds. When their stories converge, they all confront a world that’s both better and worse than they could have imagined.

Heroes,  by Gérald Sibleyras, translated by Tom Stoppard
July 10 – August 10

The delightful 2006 Oliver Award Winner for Best New Play. Cooped up in a country estate veterans’ home, three cantankerous old comrades bicker, banter, and reminisce, all before hatching a plan to escape their current confines and take back their lives. Maybe they will travel to Indochina, or maybe picnic under the group of trees at the top of the hill. All that is certain is that the dog statue in the garden is coming with them.

Beyond Therapy, by Christopher Durang
August 21 – September 28

The witty and wickedly wild date comedy. Prudence and Bruce have each posted a singles ad in the paper at the suggestion of their respective therapists. When they meet, their blind date waivers somewhere near total fiasco. While the therapists themselves border on psychotic, and both ex- and current lovers force their way into the picture, Prudence and Bruce try to navigate the treacherous waters of maintaining sanity.

Plus—a Special Added Attraction!

Avenue Q,  Music & Lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, Book by Jeff Whitty
January 9 – February 16

Winner of the Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q is a laugh-out-loud modern musical. Although the show addresses humorous adult issues, it is similar to a beloved children’s show, a place where puppets are friends, monsters are good and life lessons are learned. We’re importing the long-running production from Theatre 3 in Dallas.
Tickets for this play will be $35. Subscribers may buy them along with Season Ticket purchase for only $25 each.

Tickets for the 2013-2014 season are now on sale.  Tickets purchased by October 15 range in price from $120 to $135, with discounts for students, seniors, and teachers.  Tickets purchased after October 15 will range from $130 to $150, also with discounts for students, seniors, and teachers.
