UPTOWN PLAYERS PRESENTS THE

3RD ANNUAL PRIDE PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL

Uptown Players, a professional theater group located in the Uptown area of Dallas, has announced its programming for the 3rd annual Dallas Pride Performing Arts Festival. From September 5 - 14, 2013, Uptown Players will present a nine-day festival of plays, staged readings and cabaret acts celebrating Dallas Gay Pride.

Opening this year’s festival on the Kalita main stage will be a performance by music and comedy legends Amy Armstrong and Freddy Allen. This season marks Amy & Freddy’s 15th anniversary performing together. Based in Chicago, music and comedy legends Amy Armstrong and Freddy Allen have graced the stages coast-to-coast, both large and small, and in more than 20 countries with their one-of-a-kind wit and musical prowess. They have had the pleasure of opening and sharing the spotlight with some familiar (and some not so familiar) names including Kathy Griffin, Mary Wilson and the Supremes, Phyllis Diller, Bea Arthur, Jennifer Holiday and Judy Gold to name a few. In 2009, Amy & Freddy were featured on national television on Entertainment Tonight as part of their work with NBC’s reality show “America’s Got Talent.” With Dallas audiences, they are best known for their performances on RSVP cruises and at Uptown’s 2011 Pride Festival. This is a performance you don’t want to miss!

Presented in Franks Place upstairs at the Kalita Humphreys Theater, there will be a staged reading and a series of plays presented by Uptown Players, Theatre New West, Our Productions, and Second Thought Theater.



Made In Heaven by Jay Bernzweig – Presented by Uptown Players
In Made In Heaven, conjoined twins Max and Benjie share everything — a life, a career, even a penis. Good Boys and True by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa – Presented by Uptown Players
The hothouse atmosphere of all-male boarding schools has inspired a whole body of literature and drama exploring themes of friendship, romance, honor and betrayal…Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's Good Boys and True is a solid addition to the canon. It's a suspenseful mystery, compassionate character study and moving love story rolled into one. Prep-school senior Brandon Hardy is brilliant, athletic, popular and charming—the kind of student that makes St. Joe's School for Boys proud to call its own. However, his privileged life threatens to collapse when disturbing videotape is found on campus. As the resulting scandal takes unexpected turns, Brandon's mother Elizabeth must sort fact from fiction from family and confront unsettling truths about her son, herself, and their life.


Five Lesbians Eating a Quiche by Evan Linder and Andrew Hobgood – Presented by Uptown Players
It’s 1956 and the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein, all self-described widows, are having their annual quiche breakfast.
There is much talk of the history of this all-female institution, founded by a pioneering woman who stumbled in the woods upon a colony of hens. It should be noted that no meat has ever touched their quiche. Will they be able to keep their cool when Communists threaten their idyllic town?


Pageant Play written by Matthew Wilkas and Mark Setlock – Presented by Our Productions Theatre Company
Welcome to the hilarious, terrifying and surreal world of child beauty pageants. Pinky Corningfield will do anything to make sure her little angel wins the ultimate title, Supreme Queen. When Marge, a newcomer to the pageant circuit, shows up and starts grabbing all the glory, Pinky and her minions, Bob and Bobby (the effervescent coaches who are as gay as a tree full of chickadees), use some unorthodox methods in order to ensure her darling, Chevrolet, is victorious. Glitz. Glamour. Kidnapping. Money. Plot twists galore.


The Timekeepers written by Dan Clancy – Presented by Theatre New West
The Timekeepers is set in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp in WWII Germany. Ben a Jewish prisoner sits in a small cell repairing watches. A second prisoner Hans, who is homosexual, is thrown in with him. The initial tension between the two men gradually recedes as they struggle through their sometimes humorous differences and prejudices, and are able to co-exist as a strong friendship develops through their mutual love of opera.


C**k written by Mike Bartlett – a staged reading presented by Second Thought Theater
When John and his boyfriend take a break, the last thing he expects is to suddenly meet the woman of his dreams. Now he has a big choice to make. Mike Bartlett's comedy C**k, is about John (a man), his boyfriend and his new girlfriend. Each works to lure John from the other, to win and control him. John, as much an Everyman as his name suggests, has to sort out who he is.

General Admission tickets for individual performances in Franks Place are $10-15. Festival passes to Franks Place allow you to see all six productions for just $55.
