ANYTHING GOES will be second show for Rockwall Summer Musicals 2014 season. They open in June with Roger’s and Hammerstein’s SOUTH PACIFIC.
ANYTHING GOES is a dancer’s dream and will feature eminent guest director, Linda Leonard, who won her fourth COLUMN Award in February for Best Actress in a Musical (Equity) for KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN. ANYTHING GOES is one of Cole Porter’s most beloved musicals. Opening in 1935, the musical has performed 1,725 times on Broadway since the original production and three subsequent revivals. The 1989 and 2012 Broadway revivals won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.
The story concerns madcap antics aboard the SS American, an ocean liner bound from New York to London. Billy Crocker (Jason Bias) is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt (Sally Glaze) who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh (Hunter Lewis). Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney (Whitney Rosenbalm) and Public Enemy #13 Moonface Martin (John Garcia) aid Billy in his quest to win Hope. The musical introduced such classic songs as “Anything Goes,” “You’re the Top,” “Friendship”, and “I Get a Kick Out of You.”
