Jazmin Wilson

Associate Critic

Jazmin has basically been involved in the world of writing and performing since she was born.

She, throughout middle and high school, attended the Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy, investing countless hours to choir event after choir event. She participated not only in varsity choir, but in show choir and madrigal ensembles as well to broaden her horizons in performance. She has sung for churches, volunteer performances, city held events, national festivals, international festivals, and more, and comes from a choir recognized by numerous music educator magazines as well as even asked to perform at prestigious conventions such as the American Choral Director?s Association, Texas Music Educators Association, and more.
In addition to the numerous rehearsals in which she already spent her teen hood, Jazmin participated in many musicals along the way, including Annie Jr. (Annie), Big Fish (Amos Calloway), and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (ensemble), two of which were nominated for both Schmidt and Jones and Dallas Summer Musicals for Best Musical among other nominations. Jazmin herself, for her role as Amos Calloway, was nominated for Schmidt and Jones award for Best Supporting Actress as just a freshman.

Just as Jazmin is an individual with several years of singing, dancing, and acting under her belt, she also wields a great deal of writing experience. As soon as her freshman year, Jazmin had already become published in both fiction and nonfiction genres with professional teen publication companies in the forms of both digital and print. Before even entering her sophomore year of high school, she became a writer for teen social justice magazine, Affinity, taking a very loud stance on issues concerning gun violence, the LGBTQ+ community, mental health, and more. She went on to establish and become editor of her high school?s very first school newspaper as well as stepped into the role of editor in chief for her school?s yearbook, earning her additional experience in editing, publishing, and even photojournalism.

Now in college, Jazmin attends the University of North Texas as a double major, studying journalism with a concentration in digital and print as well as English, with a concentration in creative writing, and hopes to one day pursue something in the world of publishing, editing, or reporting. She is thankful beyond belief for her opportunity to begin writing reviews for The Column
