Kayla Barrett has a long time love of performing arts. She began imitating her favorite acts from SNL while she was in elementary school and started writing her own skits to perform for her family. Her theatrical journey took off after she auditioned for Varsity Theatre at McKinney High School her senior year and made the cut. That year she received a scholarship from Lon Morris College for her UIL performance as Woman in BRAVE NAVIGATOR. She received an Associate of Fine Arts Degree from Lon Morris College and then graduated from Texas Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre in 2009. In the last eight years, she has been part of many productions as an actress, costume designer, charge artist, and director. Her favorite roles include Mrs. Kilbride in BY THE BOG OF CATS, Grace in BUS STOP, and Rosencrantz in HAMLET. Leasing agent by day, Kayla has been searching for a way to combine her love of Theatre with her interest in journalism that will still allow her some time with her family and her husband, Chris. The Column presents a wonderful opportunity for her!
