Amy Thurmond
Associate Critic
Born and raised in Texas, Amy has been dancing since the tender age of 2, acting since age 5 and teaching dance since age 12. She has performed on stage in such productions as Nunsense, Steel Magnolias, Grease, You Can't Take It With You, Hay Fever, Rumors, Anything Goes, The Sound of Music and Garland Summer Musical's 2003 production of 42nd Street, for which she was honored with a nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role-Musical. Throughout her education, Amy has excelled at writing and has received honors and high commendations for essays and poetry on both the high school and college levels. She has served on several boards of directors for community theatres and appreciates the business of managing any type of performing arts entity. Amy has studied dance and participated in hundreds of master classes under the direction of some of the best including: Buster Cooper, Joy Sharp, Patsy Swayze, Joe Tremaine, Tracy Davis, Marilyn Dewey, Frank Hatchett, Marcea Lane, Doug Caldwell, Freda Sexton and Serge Rodnunsky. While she always enjoys her time on the stage, Amy's favorite roles tend to be behind the scenes. She has directed and choreographed over 100 productions throughout her career. Some of her favorites include Directing and Choreographing 42nd Street, Anything Goes, Oliver!, Nunsense and ANNIE as well as directing productions of Jake's Women, The Last Leaf, Little Women and Steel Magnolias amongst others. Amy is an avid supporter of the performing arts and is passionate about encouraging those who endeavor to create simply for the sake of the art.
