Artes de la Rosa

Announces the 2014 Season of Theatre, Film, & Cultural Events

In its ongoing mission to bring Latino theatre, visual arts, & culture to the North Texas Community, Artes de la Rosa is proud to bring to the Rose Marine Theater its 2014 Season.  The company will present four theatre productions, including one regional premiere and features the first musical in their continuing American Classic’s Initiative (Previous titles including, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, A View From the Bridge, & The Outsiders). The season will also see a film festival of Peruvian cinema presented in collaboration with the Consulate General of Peru.

The company will continue to present its cultural festivals including Artes Alley, a ‘street fair’ inspired festival in the spring featuring dozens of local artists and live performances on the outdoor stage. The season will conclude with the annual Dia de los Muertos which has continued to be the largest celebration commemorating the Latino holiday in Fort Worth.

“Season announcement time is just like Christmas to me!  It’s full of anticipation, excitement, hope, life and family! It seems those are also the themes we will be exploring in our season as well,” said Artistic Director Adam Adolfo. “I’m excited that Artes de la Rosa’s Season features such an exciting and diverse set of titles and stories.  From Stephen Sondheim’s beautiful family portrait, to a portrait of a different kind – one painted by an eight year old; from the hysterics of a farce in a Central American country, to the explorations of a young girl on an adventure of her own, Artes de la Rosa’s season is fresh, fascinating, and full of fun for 2014!”

Season Ticket Subscriptions will go on sale December 1st at www.ArtesDeLaRosa.org

The Yellow Boat
By David Saar
April 11th – April 27th
Directed by Adam Adolfo
The Yellow Boat is a glorious affirmation of a child's life and the courageous strength of all children through art and creativity. Based on the true story of Benjamin Saar, who was born with hemophilia and died in 1987 at the age of 8 of AIDS-related complications, Benjamin's buoyant imagination transformed his physical and emotional pain into a blaze of colors in his fanciful drawings and paintings. A folksong tells of three little boats: "One was blue, one was red and one was yellow as the sun. They sailed far out to sea. The blue one returned to the harbor. The red one sailed home, too. But the yellow boat sailed up to the sun." Benjamin always concluded his bedtime ritual by saying, "Mom, you can be the red boat or the blue boat, but I am the yellow boat."

Fort Worth Art Dealers Association Fall Gallery Night
CUERPO: The Art of the Body
September 6th
The most talked about gallery event in recent season’s returns to the Rose Marine Theater for a One Night Only Exhibit featuring tattoo artists, henna, body modification and body painting. This event takes the canvas of the body and finds the soul through art. This soul painting proves that within the culture of perfection, it is in the bodies own imperfections that we find great art. Through each brush stroke the art, artist, and the art viewer can experience an almost overwhelming amount of transcendence. We illuminate our interior beauty by decorating our outer one in a celebration that ties our physical world with our spiritual one meeting in an artistic world. Be painted, paint someone, or simply be a spectator and like all great art, Look but Don’t Touch.

REGIONAL PREMIERE
Viva!
By Andy de la Tour
September 12th – October 5th
Directed by Stephen Madrid
In the delightfully tacky Hotel Intercontinental in the banana republic of Puerto de Oro, a CIA backed dictatorship is under siege by guerillas that are within 5 miles of the capital. Hiding out inside the hotel are an assortment of oddballs and weirdos: a Nazi war criminal posing as an archbishop; a crazed general stuck upstairs with Miss July who is left over from a recent Playboy shoot; a schizoid hotel manager; the obligatory CIA man conniving to keep the revolutionary wolves at bay while desperately trying to get El Presidente to leave the country, with or without the coffin of his late beloved papa which might actually contain the country's treasury! Combine Feydeau with today's headlines and you will get the right idea.

The 11th Annual
Dia de los Muertos
Procesión & Festival
November 1st
Celebrate Dia de los Muertos with our annual celebration featuring a drum and puppet procession from Marine Park to the Rose Marine Theater Plaza. Complete with music, dancing, face painting and pan de muerto, this family event is a perfect way to celebrate the rich Mexican culture.
