THE STORY: In the Louisiana bayou, big brother Ogun Size is a wall of tough love. Younger brother Oshoosi still struggles to find his footing in the world complicated by his mysterious past.  What begins as a ritual, evolves into a tough yet tender drama about the bonds of brotherhood. Poetry and myths are spun into this hot-blooded, music-filled contemporary drama from one of the country's most exciting new voices.  Hailed by the Chicago Tribune as “The greatest piece of writing by an American playwright under 30 in a generation or more" … an unforgettable theatrical event that will leave you breathless.

A fresh remix on last year’s runaway hit of the holidays! It’s that time of year again in the town of Rudyville, time to celebrate the season and raise money for the rent at Leroy’s Night Club. The Silver Belles and the Mistletoes and are back in full force, performing some of your favorite old time Blues, Jazz and R&B hits - twisted into tunes of the season. Sweet dance moves and flashy costumes await you at Leroy’s annual Jubilation Celebration, a place where everyone is sure to be touched with the spirit of Christmas!

 

 

In Real Life

THE STORY: Charlayne Woodard, a wide eyed young African-American woman with big dreams, eagerly packs her bags and heads for New York City. Making it in the big city is no easy task as Charlayne struggles to find her footing on Broadway, but ends up with an unforgettable cast of characters. Charming fun, lyrical and beautifully written, In Real Life is the final installment in the Pretty Fire Trilogy that Jubilee Theatre fans have come to know and love.

Having performed the role of Charlayne Woodard in the first two productions, Ebony Marshall Oliver returns to the Jubilee stage to complete this series.

 

Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope

THE COLOR PURPLE is the inspiring family saga that tells an unforgettable story of a woman who through love, finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discover her unique voice in the world. This musical adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel (and the popular 1985 Steven Spielberg film) spotlights Celie, a downtrodden young woman whose personal awakening over the course of 40 years forms the arc of this epic story. With a joyous score featuring jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music and blues, THE COLOR PURPLE is a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love and a celebration of life.

 

Jubilee Theatre’s 2014-2015 Season, entitled “Journeys” is a thought provoking celebration of the human spirit and the ability of that spirit to rise up and move forward. It’s an exciting season filled with premiers of new works and award winning musicals. A spectacular journey of emotions will unfold in stories where fraternal bonds are tested, the colors of Christmas are illuminated, a star is born, the 1970’s are celebrated, a revolution is explored and sisterhood is strengthened. There is something for everyone in this season of six main stage productions and we invite you to be a part of it all.
